Rizomagic MARIMBITIAOS
Label Disasters By Choice/Polen Record
Cat. Number PLN003

Vinyl release date 05/04/2024

The Colombian duo of futuristic tropical electronic music, RIZOMAGIC,
is pleased to announce the release of their second album titled
-MARIMBITIAOS- (Click to listen exclusively).

In a rhizomatic manner, where different elements are interconnected
horizontally and without a defined center, generating unpredictable
connections, “Marimbitiaos” is a celebration of multiplicity inspired
by the music of the Colombian Pacific marimba.

With the collaboration of Jayer Torres, son and heir of the great
master of Colombian Pacific music, Gualajo, “Marimbitiaos” establishes
a dialogue between traditional sounds and the multi-timbral
possibilities of electronic music, creating a unique sound that
expands the horizons of Colombian electronic music discography.

In “Marimbitiaos,” ancestral rhythms such as currulaos, tamboritos,
and jugas intertwine with elements of ambient, IDM, and drum&bass,
giving rise to an unmistakable sonic deconstruction of Colombian
music.

“Marimbitiaos” features collaborations with the traditional music
group “Bejuco” and the Colombian singer based in England, “Montañera,”
and will be released in digital and vinyl format on October 27, 2023,
through a partnership between the Colombian label Polen Records and
the Italian label Disasters by Choice.

Rizomagic – Voltaje Raizal

Label Disasters By Choice

Cat. Number LPNUY007

LP black 350 copies. Release date 21/11/2021

Voltaje Raizal will be released on vinyl by the italian label Disasters by Choice on November 21 supported with a musical video for their song CumbiaAchiampong by the colombian visual artist Martin Sanchez.
The sounds of the album are rooted in the Afro-Caribbean musical tradition, in the mixed ancestry that defines Colombian culture, and IDM.

The melodic construction of the album takes inspiration from variouscultures, including Indigenous chants from Colombia’s Embera people, the traditional scales from Mali’s Bambara ethnic group, and the Ghanian palm wine guitar interpreted by a Caribbean millo flute. The mix and masterization carried out by Eblis Alvarez ( Meridian Brothers, Pirañas, Chupame el Dedo) and Camilo Manchego offered the final touches that make Voltaje Raizal a fresh proposal to Colombia’s futurist tropical scene. “ Rizomagic set our to recontextualize their sources. It’s no coincidence that their name comes from rhizomatic, the botanically derived term for a subterranean, horizontal network of roots”

The Colombian electronic duo Rizomagic, Diego Manrique, director of the avant-garde cumbia orchestra Niño Pueblo, and Edgar Marun, director of the ethno-afrobeat ensemble Dorado Kandua; Two outstanding projects from Bogota’s new thriving alternative psychedelic scene. With their Tropical Futurism music project juxtaposes Cumbian rhythms with deconstructed highlife, Ngoni scales and indigenous instruments. “We are trying to make music from a non-hegemonic structure”, we have the feeling that telling a story from only one perspective can be weak, so we try to speak, on the one hand, from the West and, on the other, from tradition or, let’s say, non-hegemonic knowledge, and we find a point of balance ”.
